Mandriva Linux 2009

Mandriva Linux is created through an open source development project called Cooker, which has been in existence since 1998. The Cooker project is analogous to Red Hat’s Fedora project and Novell’s openSUSE project, and the hundreds of developers who work on the project provides a free Mandriva Linux instance suitable for desktops or servers that has no proprietary software embedded in it. Mandriva Linux is available in a few different flavors (Discovery, Powerpack, Powerpack+ and Mandriva One) which are subscription based, but is also of course available for free. The main advantages to the paid versions are additions of non-free software (such as DVD playback).

Mandriva Linux is one of the distributions that is aimed at the novice computer user, though it also includes features that those with more experience will enjoy. Like most Linux distributions, Mandriva is free to download, and with the Live CD version called Mandriva One, you can even try the operating system out before committing to a full installation. Mandriva Linux is an easy to use operating system which provides unparalleled hardware support together with extended integration of latest technologies such as Bluetooth and WIFI. Other key features include KDE and GNOME graphical desktops, enhanced laptop support.

Mandriva Linux is suitable for servers, workstations and Desktop uses. There is a free release version (based upon GPL license and downloadable). Mandriva Linux is the most widely recommended system for Linux beginners. It’s loved by its fans for its unmatched Control Center, the graphical tool for managing your whole system, and other home-made tools. Mandriva Linux is also very famous for its excellent hardware support. The newest version of this Linux distro is The Mandriva Linux 2009. Mandriva Linux 2009 is available in three editions: One , Powerpack and Free , for both i586 and x86-64 architectures. One and Free can be downloaded free of charge from official Mandriva mirrors and via BitTorrent. Mandriva Linux 2009 offers a modern graphical environment: KDE 4.1. Personalizable, modular, scalable, and full of visual effects that enhance the environment, KDE’s new version is usable everywhere, from the oldest hardware to the newest.

Mandriva Linux (formerly Mandrakelinux) was created in 1998 with the goal of making Linux easier to use for everyone. At that time, Linux was already well-known as a powerful and stable operating system that demanded strong technical knowledge and extensive use of the “command line”; MandrakeSoft saw this as an opportunity to integrate the best graphical desktop environments and contribute its own graphical configuration utilities and quickly became famous for setting the standard in ease-of-use and functionality.
