Linux Developer Network beta

On August 7, Brian Proffitt, former Managing Editor of Linux Today and the new LDN Community Manager, announced the beta release of the Linux Foundation’s Linux Developer Network. Founded in 2007, the Linux Foundation sponsors the work of Linux creator Linus Torvalds and is supported by leading Linux and open source companies and developers from around the world.

Linux Developer Network is a website service that offer programming function reference for the Linux/Gnome platform.
Brian will be serving as the community manager and editor for the Linux Developer Network. The Linux Developer Network (LDN) is a community of Linux developers, vendors, and experts dedicated to the purpose of helping Linux application developers build LSB-compliant applications and make their existing Linux applications portable to any LSB-compliant distribution.

LDN is also a community ultimately dedicated to the betterment of Linux, the free and open source operating system.
Maybe it’s time to start trusting the strength of the open source methodology, and it’s various licenses, and stop worrying about who’s trying to take advantage of us.

“We want to make it easier for application developers to target Linux in general. How many thousands of developers work with free and open source software. Now imagine the same energy from volunteers for developer-oriented content, all channeling their efforts into a centralized LDN site.”

By combining this information with other data sources one can study the different factors that have influenced the expansion of the Linux developer network.

We have designed the LDN  to hopefully provide a central place for collaboration and problem solving across the application development community. This could evolve to include driver development, embedded, mobile, Cloud computing, general Linux documentation and so on.
The developers, therefore, did not only know who had produced specific components of the system, but they also knew the complete history of these developments.
